Mission

The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.- NYS PTA

Every PTA member is asked to step up and become a service leader in their community by identifying unmet needs in their schools, developing their own service projects, and recruiting new PTA and community members who are interested in the same issues.

Volunteerism often stops at the schoolhouse door when volunteers leave the building, however, parents and families are encouraged to collaborate on and commit to solving some of the most important and challenging issues today. Below are some of the issues and activities that Voorheesville PTA is currently working on.

Involving Youth

PTA encourages youth to become active as leaders and as participants in planning and implementing their service projects. Young people bring unique perspectives and energy that can be positively contributed to projects. Voorheesville PTA examples of working with our children to develop their leadership skills include: the High School after prom party, Middle School teen nights, Oydssey of the Mind and more.

Education

For more than 110 years, PTA members have strived to improve early childhood education, teacher quality and other issues that are important to the success of our nation’s schools. Voorheesville PTA examples of supporting the education and growth of our children include:

  1. Odyssey of the Mind

  2. Science Fair

  3. Arts and Humanities programs

  4. Middle School television station

  5. Career Exploration events with the Guidance Department

  6. Character education

Health

The most pressing issue facing many Americans today is the health and well-being of their families. Good health is vital to a child’s quality of life and a child’s ability to learn is directly related to his or her state of health. Voorheesville PTA examples of supporting this issue includes the Blackbird Paradise Garden and the Farm to School Initiative.
